Chemistry undergraduate courses

Our courses cover the breadth of chemistry, with the opportunity to specialise in areas such as sustainable chemistry and biological and medicinal chemistry. You can also grow your experience and connections by opting to complete a year-long work placement or study abroad as part of your degree.

MChem or BSc?

MChem courses come with a final year of research training, where you'll work in the lab with a team of professional scientists on an unanswered question in chemistry. They're the best route for students who are thinking about a career in scientific research.

All of our courses are accredited by the , so you’ll cover the organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry that every chemist needs for a successful career.

Flexibility

It's possible to transfer between any of our courses up to end of your second year, and you can transfer between Chemistry MChem and Chemistry BSc well into your third year.

Industrial placement years

All of our chemistry courses offer the option of a one-year industrial work placement, which you can opt to do after you start your degree.

Study abroad

On all our chemistry courses, you can apply to spend a year studying abroad once you arrive in Sheffield.
