Professor Aarti Iyer

Aarti Iyer was a Professor of Social Psychology at our University and is currently a Social Scientist at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Aarti Iyer was a Professor of Social Psychology. She taught research methods and statistics in the Psychology Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses. Aarti also served as a member of the Department’s Management/Executive Group (2016-2021).

Aarti received her PhD in 2004 from the University of California, Santa Cruz, after which she worked as a Postdoctoral Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Associate at the University of Exeter for three years. In 2007, Aarti moved to Australia to pursue a continuing academic position at the University of Queensland. She joined the University of Sheffield as a Reader in 2016 and was promoted to Professor in 2021.

Aarti’s academic research here spanned two broad areas, focused on understanding the factors that influence: (1) individuals’ political attitudes and political behaviour and (2) immigrants’ successful transition to a new country.

She published more than 50 journal articles and book chapters with colleagues, with funding from the National Science Foundation (USA), the Australian Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Council, the Economic and Social Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Council (UK), and The British Academy.
